DATABASE DESIGN AND ADMINISTRATION:
The success of a company is often tied to the skill and speed used in utilizing the vast amount of information it receives. Keeping track of all that information, often called data, has become more complex and has required more elaborate “systems” to manage the process.
Database design and administration involves the storage and retrieval of information. Professionals in this field find the best ways to store and access the data that businesses use everyday. From managing employee data, tracking inventory, and keeping data on customers it is all managed via databases.
Professionals in this field can expect to focus in one of two areas: design or administration. Database administrators monitor and maintain database performance, educate company employees in using the database, test and coordinate changes to new or existing databases, and perform updates. Designers are responsible for building the systems to meet the requirements set by the users. Designers work closely with others throughout an organization to determine the best way to organize and retrieve the company’s data.
